As well as offering one to one counselling, I am also a trained relationship counsellor and offer sessions in my private practice in the peaceful cathedral grounds in Norwich. I offer counselling for anyone having difficulties in their relationship. This may be a couple who have been together for a while or just recently together and includes people whatever their sexual orientation or gender identity. I also see other combinations; mother and adult child or father and adult child as well as family groups.
Whatever the issue, both people in the relationship need to come to the sessions together. This is because it is important that I do not take sides or offer solutions but offer a space which helps each person to ‘hear’ and understand the other. I listen carefully to each person to understand their position, it can at times help for me to communicate each person’s feelings to the other in a way that each can non-defensively hear. The counselling sessions can help couples to understand each other better. As a relationship counsellor I will value both positions without trying to guide the relationship in either direction. I will try hard to ensure that each person feels genuinely heard and understood by their partner. It may well be that people come to the sessions unsure of what they want for the future. I aim to create an environment which feels safe and supportive so that each partner can explore this and come to a clearer understanding in their own minds.
If you and your partner or relative would like more information or if you would like to book an initial session to see if these sessions may be of help, then please get in touch.
